The Magnavox Odyssey 300 is a dedicated home video game console released by Magnavox in October 1976 at a launch price of $69. Designed to compete directly with the Coleco Telstar, it was one of the first systems to utilize a single integrated circuit chip, the AY-3-8500, for its logic instead of multiple discrete components.
The console features three built-in Pong-style games: Tennis, Hockey, and Smash. Unlike its predecessors, the Odyssey 300 introduced digital on-screen scoring and three difficulty levels: Novice, Intermediate, and Expert. Gameplay is controlled via two vertical dials (one for each player), and the system is monochrome, though color could be added using a separate chip.
